Virginia gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe is challenging Donald Trump to challenge his opponent

Endorsement of Donald Trump can mean a lot to candidates in certain states. In others, however, the former president’s backing is more problematic than it’s worth and could potentially slow down a campaign.

It’s unclear what the value of Trump’s backing in Virginia might be. Once a Republican stronghold, it has turned increasingly blue with Joe Biden defeating Trump by just over 10%.

Of course, the former president thinks he is an asset and not a liability. So on Monday he endorsed Republican gubernatorial candidate Glenn Youngkin. Old VA. Governor and current Democratic candidate Terry McAuliffe challenged Trump to come publicly campaign for Youngkin.

Triumph wrote today, “Four years ago, a man named Ed Gillespie ran for governor of Virginia without embracing MAGA, or the America First movement. Trump’s base is very large in Virginia, they understood his game and did not come out in Gillespie’s favor … Now a great candidate, Glenn Youngkin, is running against political hacking and unpopular ex-governor Terry McAuliffe. Glenn has a good chance of winning. “

A funny McAuliffe answered, “Donald Trump, a failed and unpopular one-term president, simply cannot accept the fact that the people of Virginia have rejected him TWICE. So he’s back to his LIES from the 2020 election. Donald, are you brave enough to come to Virginia to campaign for Glenn? Third is the charm. “

McAuliffe was a popular governor in Virginia and is the clear favorite in the race. Trump’s endorsement is highly unlikely to help Younkin get over it.
