Cowardly Republicans plead with President Biden to do what they refused to do under Trump

0

For four long years, Republicans across the country sat idly by flattering Trump even as he created immeasurable harm to the nation, its relationship with its allies, and inflicted no small amount of economic damage on many American industries. Meanwhile, Republicans acted as if they ignored the damage Trump’s slash-and-burn incompetence did to his constituents because they were too cowardly to exercise their constitutional authority to stop the madman in his tracks.

Yet now that there is a Democrat in the White House, the same Republican bootlickers who couldn’t separate their entry holes from Trump’s exit hole are calling on President Joe Biden to stop the “self-harm” they allowed Trump to cause. many crucial industries and America’s standing with its allies because they refused to do their job.

The news that several Republican senators sent a letter to President Joe Biden asking him to reverse the damage of Trump’s imposition of tariffs on US allies should have remained in the news cycle for a couple of weeks, if not more. However, he hardly received much more than a passing item or two and it is a very curious thing indeed; because it amplified how aware Republicans were of the damage Trump was causing in real time and how they could have used their constitutional authority to stop him at any time if they wanted to.

Under the United States Constitution, what some Americans consider the Law of the State, only the United States Congress can impose tariffs. Article 1, section 8, clearly states:

Congress shall have the power to establish and collect taxes, duties, taxes, and excise duties, to pay debts and to provide the common defense and general welfare of the United States; but all duties, taxes, and excise duties shall be uniform throughout the United States “; and” Regulate commerce with foreign nations, and between the various states, and with the Indian tribes.

Almost immediately after settling in a place he never had the right to visit, let alone occupy, Trump took it upon himself to impose tariffs on our already existing allies. withdraw from the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

Not only were both measures unconstitutional, they inflicted a great deal of damage on America’s ability to conduct trade with foreign nations and placed American industries at a serious disadvantage. Particularly hard was the agriculture industry; and that does not include substantial damage due to Trump’s disastrously outrageous immigration policies.

Now Republicans admit that Trump’s illegal tariffs were a “self-inflicted wound” in America, so they are appealing to President Biden to fix Trump’s disastrous embezzlement and do what they refused to do: his jobs.

Although they had the common sense to admit that President Biden was right in condemning Trump’s actions, they never found him guilty or confessed his guilt in Trump’s catastrophic moves.

Nowhere does the Constitution of the United States give Congress the authority to transfer constitutional power from Congress to the Executive Branch. Republicans simply abdicated their duties to Trump knowing full well that they would be catastrophic for American business, agriculture, consumers, and the nation’s relationship with its allies and business partners.

In its lyrics To President Biden, Republicans said in part:

Your administration needs to evaluate the rate experiences of the last three years and determine the policies that have worked and those that have not. As you have said, the trade war has been damaging and disastrous for many American companies. We agree that the federal government must immediately stop actions that cause harm. We also agree with the strategy of your Administration that seeks to work more closely with allies. We believe that this should be the centerpiece of any successful effort to build relationships and ultimately hold China accountable for trade and human rights abuses.

An important first step would be to reduce trade barriers with our allies. By doing so, we can Stop harmful actions and retaliation and repair relationships while listening to companies across the country that have suffered the negative economic consequences. We urge the Administration to listen to the many stories of these companies and put an end to the self-harm of the trade war. ” (author in bold).

It is worth reiterating that nowhere in the letter signed by seven Republican senators is Trump’s name mentioned, or any admission of guilt for abdicating his constitutional duty to comply with his obligation to “impose tariffs” and “regulate trade with foreign nations, “or stop Trump from further harming America at home and abroad. For the love of dogs, they had an excellent opportunity to kick the tramp out during his first impeachment trial, but they didn’t.

Democrats would do well in the midterm elections to remind the American people why Republicans had to crawl to President Biden to repair the damage done to them by Trump’s immigration policies and tariffs. It is typical in the United States for a Democratic administration to repair major damage after a Republican administration cracked down on the country with incompetence and bad policies. But what’s unusual is for Republican senators to ask the Democratic administration to repair the catastrophic damage their alleged man-turned-god inflicted because Republicans abdicated their sworn duties before a fascist madman.
