What are we all playing this weekend?

Just when you thought we were going to have a nice and quiet weekend, Valve comes along and announces my dream machine, the Steam Deck. It will almost certainly be my great pleasure, but the thought of playing my favorite indie PC games and old favorites in 3D on the couch while old RPS video pal Matthew plays. its Steam games or Switch on the TV is very, very tempting.

There are still years before I can get my hands on one, sadly, but this new excitement is a welcome change of pace as we approach the drought of traditional summer games. Will you save games to play on it, or did your weekend game plans not change?

is far.

The recently released DLC seems like a good excuse to return to Streets Of Rage 4. New characters, weapons, and moves are enough to get me eating chicken off the ground again. Hopefully survival mode will make the extra floor good.

I’m bouncing between all kinds of games right now to see what sticks. I will likely dedicate myself to Forza Horizon 4, relax at night with Final Fantasy XIV, and then put myself through the stress of Rimworld. I am new to cologne simulators, but I have a very patient friend who guides me. My favorite settler is Toni, who has been blessed with psychic powers after killing a rabid squirrel with his paw.

I’ve waited forever to get started, but I’m finally playing the new Ratchet & Clank on PS5. I shuffled starting out because I loved old games so much and I’m terrified that I might not like this one (and yes, I know it’s a dumb reason not to play something). So far, so good! And what everyone said before is absolutely true: this is the first game that truly feels like the next generation.

It overwhelms you so much, Nate.

After reading Nate’s excellent Company Of Heroes 3 preview this week, I think I could give the pre-alpha demo a try. Total War-style games have never been my strong suit, but COH3’s tactical pause feature has me intrigued. Also, I can always retreat to the warm pastoral fields of Dorfromantik if things get too difficult. The latest update has finally successfully unlocked my train and ship tiles after a bug kept them at bay, so now my little towns feel buzzing with activity.

BEASTMEN! BEEEEEEASTMEN! AWOOOOOOOOOO! GAAAAARRRRRGGGHHHH! By which I mean I’ll be enjoying more of the new Silence & The Fury DLC for Total Warhammer 2, featuring the most ridiculously dominated gentleman the game has ever seen. It’s called Taurox the Brass Bull, I don’t think it’s really possible to lose like him, and yet is it still somehow immensely fun?

This weekend is the joint celebration of my dad’s and my birthday, so I won’t have too much time for the usual PC games. However, I think there will be a fair amount of Beat Saber playing, which should be a lot of fun and will definitely hurt like hell afterward. But that’s what birthday drinks are for.

Now that I’ve put on the record that I called The Medium my GOTFHOTY (shout out to the two people on Twitter who got to that acronym before me!), It occurs to me that I should probably end it at some point. Heard the ending is a bit divisive, so let’s hope you’re not ready to eat my words at the end of the weekend!

But you, dear reader, what are you going to play this weekend?
