Roll the dice to survive in Random, a twisted kingdom from a gothic fairy tale. In Random it all comes down to chance and only the brave succeed by learning to tilt the odds in their favor.
Even is a penniless girl whose sister, Odd, has been kidnapped from her family home in Onecroft. To rescue Odd, Even must travel through the 6 regions of Random. Everything on Even’s journey will be about understanding the odds and adapting to each unique circumstance that comes his way.
At the beginning of her journey, Even will be alone and equipped with only one sling. The sling is great for breaking pots and collecting coins, but unfortunately it cannot harm enemies. A chance encounter with Dicey, a living die, will allow her to begin to fend for herself. By casting Dicey Even, you can fight enemies, such as the mechanical minions of the evil Queen of Random.
Dicey isn’t exactly living his best life when Even meets him; he’s losing most of his pips and can only get a 1. Still, together, Even and Dicey can get into the fray and finding his missing pips will become another target in his quest.
Random combat occurs in arenas that look like giant game boards. Moving forward and ending a fight will generally mean rolling Dicey to advance the player’s piece on the board, with the ultimate goal often of bringing the player’s piece to the end. Take the piece to the final place and Even will be safe. But until you do … she won’t be.
Enemies will appear in the arena and attempt to eliminate it before she and Dicey can carry the player’s piece to the end of the board. Again; Even’s sling cannot damage enemies. That’s where your deck of cards comes in.
You will collect five different types of cards to build Even’s deck: weapon, damage, defense, danger, and trap. Weapon cards will even equip weapons like bows or swords that, unlike your slingshot, can damage enemies.
- Damage cards deal damage in other ways, like summoning dangerous creatures to raze the arena or blowing up Dicey (don’t worry, that’ll be fine). However, even these cards can also be damaged, so you will need to be careful.
- Defense cards help you heal and protect yourself even using items like elixirs and shields. It’s good to have Defense cards on hand when enemies are closing in or your health is running low.
- Hazard cards allow you to add hazards to the arena, things like traps that hurt, weaken, or slow enemies. You can set up a cannon to attack enemies, for example.
- Trap cards push the odds in your favor with special effects that make it easier to play cards faster, move the player’s piece further, or draw more cards from the deck into their hand.
Building Even’s deck of cards is an exercise in creativity and strategy.
As he travels through Random, Even will grow stronger by collecting cards and retrieving Dicey’s lost nuggets, allowing him to obtain higher numbers during combat. Even will also need to collect Dicey’s lost nuggets to advance through Random’s cities, as the entrance to the different cities (Onecroft, Two-Town, Threedom, Four-Town, Fivetropolis, and Sixtopia) depends on his ability to roll the number. of each city. .
Chance can seem like a chaotic place, and ultimately surviving means accepting it. There are many possibilities and you will not always know what will happen next, but most of the time you will know what could happen. You won’t know if you will roll a 3, but you will know what happens if you do. By understanding the odds, you will be able to set Even for victory.
