The Sims 4 players are flooding their homes with ponds

The latest expansion for The Sims 4, Cottage Living, has just been released and brings with it a free update to the base game. Among all the new additions is the Pond tool, which some people are using to build beautiful water features outside their idyllic country houses. Others are making monstrous and flooded disasters. Which is something the pond tool apparently lets you do.

As seen by Pc gamer, some Sims 4 players are flooding the #ShowUsYourBuilds hashtag on Twitter with real flooded houses.

I would like to be surprised by this development, but I must say no. One of the best parts of simulation games is figuring out how to dumbly bend the rules and this is sure to qualify. I quickly tried it myself at the Pancake residence. It seems that adding water to rooms will remove your doors, so if you want a functional pond house for whatever reason, you will need to have gaps in the walls.

This is all part of the new water tool in The Sims 4 building mode. Now whenever you download parts of a batch with the Terrain tool, you can also use the Water tool to fill them. There are also other additions related to the base game, such as pond effects like ducks, the Sims’ ability to play in water, and new pond item decoration items.

You can also see the base game additions that are not ponds in the The Sims 4 patch notes. The calendar feature, which was previously part of the Seasons expansion, is now accessible in the base game to detect birthdays and the like. A new food delivery service called Zoomers allows your Sims to call in to eat instead of cook.

If you’re looking at the new expansion, Rebecca has some tips for you on how to change the colors of the animals. You wouldn’t want to have the least interesting llama at the fair, right?
