Why The Left Can’t Let Go of January 6, by Pat Buchanan

To understand what House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s select committee’s investigation into the Jan.6 Capitol events is all about, a good place to start is with Paul Hodgkins’ sentencing hearing last week. .

A 38-year-old Tampa, Florida crane operator, Hodgkins, pleaded guilty to a single count of obstructing a joint session of Congress called to confirm Joe Biden as the next president.

Hodgkins entered the Senate chamber with a Trump 2020 flag. He did not commit any assault, no act of destruction, no act of violence. However, he was sentenced to eight months in prison by US judge Randolph Moss.

Special Assistant United States Attorney Mona Sedky pleaded for a sentence twice that length, a year and a half, because, as she told the judge, “Jan. 6 was really an act of terrorism. “

But is that true? Was January 6 “an act of terrorism,” of the character, if not of the magnitude, say, of the Oklahoma City bombing?

Hodgkins’ attorney strongly rejected that description. Calling January 6 “internal terrorism,” said Patrick Leduc, is “offensive and to wipe out the gas in the country … It was a protest that turned into a riot, period, period.”

Leduc is right: January 6 was a riot. If it had really been “domestic terrorism,” as the US attorney stated, why would he have accepted a guilty plea for a single non-violent crime?

Why didn’t you throw the book at the terrorist?

Looking back, what was January 6 actually?

A large pro-Trump rally of tens of thousands, of which a crowd of hundreds moved toward the Capitol, broke through police lines, assaulted police, bulldozed, and disrupted official proceedings.

All in all, a shameful shame. But 1/6 wasn’t 9/11 or Oklahoma City or Pearl Harbor or the Pulse nightclub or the Las Vegas massacre.

Why is it promoted like this? Why won’t the establishment leave on January 6? Why, half a year later, is it still an obsession of the regime’s media?

The hype never ends. On a daily basis, we hear establishment politicians and the press describe it as the most terrible day in American history.

We are told that it was an “armed insurrection,” “internal terrorism,” an attempted “coup,” “an act of treason,” “the worst attack on American democracy since the British burned the Capitol in 1814.” .

Why did Pelosi back down and reject two of House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy’s picks for his select committee: Representatives Jim Banks from Indiana and Jim Jordan from Ohio?

Because the deck is stacked, the solution is ready. The Pelosi committee has been designed to bring a third indictment against Donald Trump and the Republican Party for posing the greatest threat to American democracy since Fort Sumter.

The issues, plots and questions that Banks and Jordan would have raised would have gone off-script and disrupted the agreed narrative.

In fact, who is the selection committee made up of when you open your hearings today?

All Democrats on the committee voted to impeach Trump by Jan.6. The two Republicans Pelosi put on the committee to provide a bipartisan balance, Liz Cheney of Wyoming and Adam Kinzinger of Illinois, voted to impeach Trump last January and are both in the anti-Trump Republican ranking on Capitol Hill.

Pelosi has assembled a jury to try Trump and the Republican Party for insurrection, each of whose members have already indicated that they believe that January 6 is a historic crime and that Trump is guilty.

Why are Pelosi and the regime’s media doing everything they can to keep January 6 alive? What are the risks involved?

As of today, January 6 is the biggest and last best recourse for Democrats to retain control of Congress in 2022.

Because if that election isn’t about the worst day for the GOP of the Trump years, it will be about the successes and failures of Biden’s first two years.

And what, as of today, appear to be the problems of 2022?

That election will be the worst inflation outbreak in a quarter century to hit the US economy. It will be that Biden has presided over a fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, after declaring our independence from the virus on July 4, 2021.

It will be the largest invasion of illegals across the southern border of the United States in the history of the republic: 2 million a year in 2021 and again in 2022, with 300,000 of these “access roads” eluding any contact with the Border Patrol.

Among the 4 million illegals anticipated in Biden’s first two years are child abusers, drug dealers and unvaccinated carriers of COVID-19.

The 2022 elections will also be about a wave of shootings, injuries, murders and gun crime in our major cities, which have long been ruled by Liberal Democrats.

The Democratic establishment and its media arm have a vital interest in promoting January 6 and not letting it go. For January 6, 2021, it is your last best hope to maintain power after November 8, 2022.
