CNN: ‘Dangerous Trope’ to Say COVID Positive Illegal Immigrants Spread Virus

Despite President Biden having a historic illegal immigration crisis on his hands, CNN diverted the blame from the Democrat this morning to attack his Republican critics. In New day This morning, co-host Brianna Keilar accused Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Texas Senator Ted Cruz of perpetuating a “dangerous trope” that illegal immigrants were spreading Covid.

Keilar began his spiel against the right wing, reluctantly admitting that things were not looking good for the Biden administration:

You know, there is a crisis at the border. The last time the Border Patrol saw this number of migrants trying to cross in a month was two decades ago. This morning, Ed’s meeting for the Washington Post it demands a coherent strategy. So yes, President Biden has a real problem on his hands here.

Before he took a sharp turn to attack Biden’s critics as similar to far-right racists in Charlottesville:

And his critics are capitalizing on it. Hear from former House Speaker Newt Gingrich echoing the tone of far-right extremists when it comes to immigration reform … That’s pretty close to what’s known as the grand replacement theory, the theory that whites are being replaced by non-white people especially immigrants.

After replaying a montage of Republicans criticizing the president’s border policy, after he blamed red state governors like Abbott of Texas and DeSantis of Florida for the surge in COVID cases, Keilar echoed the president, saying that the The real problem was the low vaccination rates (although there are many other states with less vaccinated population):

KEILAR: And of course there is more. Some conservative lawmakers and experts, some of the same who argue against masking in schools to protect unvaccinated children, say COVID-19 is a problem, but only at the border. In Texas, new coronavirus cases are on the rise. The seven-day average reached nearly 12,000 new cases yesterday. But they say it is not the low level of acceptance of the vaccine by the states that is to blame. [shows graphic 53.2% of population partially vaxxed] If you ask Senator Ted Cruz, this is it.

CRUZ: If you don’t want this pandemic to return with the delta variant, most of these illegal immigrants who enter have not been vaccinated. They are putting them in cages with other people who are called positive. They are spreading Covid on their Covid launch in our communities. This is crazy.

Keilar criticized DeSantis and Rand Paul for citing reports revealing that immigrants at the border were being released across the country, calling this a “strange claim without any evidence”:

That claim is not based on fact. There is no evidence of a large-scale importation of second Covid migrants to Florida that can be blamed for dire exit numbers in their state. And as we noted, hundreds of thousands of immigrants are being expelled. And Senator Rand Paul, who has just criticized the CDC for offering guidelines on safe reopening of schools, is making this bizarre claim without proof.

The journalist ended her spiel by calling this idea a “dangerous trope” of “demonizing foreigners as sick”:

There are some in the Republican Party who insist that COVID is not that bad. It’s certainly not bad enough for children to wear masks to school, even if they are too young to be vaccinated. But it’s actually bad. They say, very badly, a threat indeed if it is about undocumented immigrants entering the country. Again, there is no evidence that they are responsible for the rise of COVID in American communities. It’s the centuries-old trope of demonizing foreigners as sick … These conservative voices know it. They are the vectors that affect Americans who profess to worry about a lack of misinformation. And the growing number of cases, the delays in vaccines are proof of that.

Except this is not the figment of the Republicans’ imagination. For months, there have been reports that the Border Patrol has been launching COVID-positive migrants who have crossed the border through cities like McAllen, Texas. This has even been reported in liberal media. like NBC News.

Keilar’s defense of Biden’s botch in today’s border crisis was a follow-up to his report on Friday that appeared to criticize his handling. from the left.

They are the vectors that affect Americans who profess to worry about a lack of misinformation. And the growing number of cases, the delays in vaccines are proof of that.

JOHN BERMAN: And also to Governor Ron DeSantis, we love hearing your comment on Florida’s record hospitalizations and what you plan to do to reduce those numbers. Because they keep going up.

KEILAR: Yeah, a lot of his policies at this point are not, you know they’re not discouraging those numbers and it looks like he’s looking for a scapegoat. But it’s like I said, it’s a trope and it’s dangerous.
