Alice: Asylum’s ‘narrative scheme’ might be the closest thing to American McGee’s Alice 3 fans

It’s been a long time since anything substantial has been heard about Alice: Asylum, aka American McGee’s Alice 3, the dark action-platformer version of Alice in Wonderland. Now creator American McGee has released a full ‘narrative outline’ for the game, so fans can experience the full story of Asylum, which is great, because the game is so far away.

The two Alice games were released by EA in 2000 and 2011 (Alice: Madness Returns’ 10th anniversary was this past June) and were well regarded by fans, despite being relatively straightforward action platformers. The dark and unique version of Alice’s stories was a big part of the appeal, no doubt.

American McGee has been working on a third game, Alice: Asylum, since around 2017, and has been constantly releasing pieces of art and information. on the alice patreon since then. This weekend, McGee posted possibly the biggest update yet: a Alice: Asylum narrative scheme, complete with script excerpts, illustrations, and the full story of the game from start to finish.

Obviously there are big spoilers for Alice 3, the scheme goes into a lot of detail, but McGee adds that it is “still a work in progress” and is seeking feedback from fans to improve it. However, even if Alice: Asylum happens, there are still many years to go – this outline will form the basis of the design bible that will be used to present the project to “potential investors”, so the project has not even received the green light. , Regrettably.

Please note when downloading the Alice 3 outline, as made clear on the first page, that the story contains many harrowing scenes involving topics such as mental health, death, and child abuse, so read carefully the warning from content before continuing.

American McGee is still probably best known as one of the top level designers for id Software’s original Quake, which coincidentally just got a remastered re-release this week.
