Donkey Kong 64 is a beloved classic platformer that features a strange rap song and too many collectibles. While all those pesky collectibles are not fondly remembered these days, the weird rap song found at the beginning of DK64 It is a fan favorite. It sure is terrible, but in an adorable way. However, as noted in a recent Joel Haver video, “DK Rap” is strangely cruel to one member of the team: Lanky Kong.
YouTuber and filmmaker Joel Haver’s latest animated short reminded me of “DK Rap” attacks on Lanky Kong. The video, Animated similar to other Haver classics, shows us how Lanky Kong reacted the first time they saw the classic rap song. (Spoilers: It’s not going very well!)
I have listened to “DK Rap” many times over the years, but never connected the dots until this video. For a song that is overwhelmingly positive, just shit in Lanky Kong. Sure, he brags about his ability to stretch his arms, but only after saying that he has no style, no grace, and that he also has a funny face. While the lyrics are not incredibly clever, they are still painful.
Also, since I suppose you are like me, here is the original rap song in all its nineties glory. No need to search Google or YouTube. I will save you time. Here you have:
If you liked this short video “DK Rap” from Joel haverI highly recommend that you take a look at some of his other animated shorts. His RPG shorts are amazing. But maybe my favorite is his video showing what happens after some random bullies in a Unexplored-like an action game, do the impossible and kill the main character.
In the meantime, I hope you’re doing well today, Lanky Kong. You … oh wait, I’m reading your DK Wiki Page And it turns out that you basically don’t appear in games anymore and nobody cares.
Well I’m sorry Lanky Kong. Do you even have long arms?
